William Garfield Walker to conduct Schubert’s famous “Unfinished Symphony”

For Immediate Release: MSO’s Guest Conductor Prime Draw for “Spring Delight”

Jackson, Mississippi, February 28, 2020—The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra will perform its third Chamber series concert “Spring Delight” on March 7th, 7:30pm at the Millsaps College Ford Academic Complex. The concert is a warm welcome home for guest conductor William Garfield Walker, a graduate of JPS Power APAC School and currently living in Vienna, Austria, in an enchanting evening that also features renowned guitarist Giovanni de Chiaro, and a concerto written especially for him.

Emerging conductor Walker, 28, will conduct the evening’s closing piece, Schubert’s beloved “Unfinished Symphony”. Other highlights include guest guitarist Giovanni de Chiaro performing “Concierto De Chiaro” by Kermit Poling (composer, conductor and general manager of the public Shreveport-based Red River Radio). Plus, enjoy selections from Christoph Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice”, as well as Sam Watson’s “Elegy”. We are thrilled that Watson and Poling will both be in attendance at this Chamber concert. MSO Conductor Crafton Beck and Walker will speak at the Millsaps Department of Music’s “Meet the Artist” forum on Thursday, May 5th, 4pm in the recital hall.

The MSO Intimate Classics Chamber Series presents four concerts per year in more intimate venues, creating an up close and personal concert experience. Tickets for “Spring Delight” are $23 for adults and $5 students/children (ages 4-18), when accompanied by a paying adult. Advance tickets may be purchased online at or by calling (601) 960-1565, or by visiting the MSO office at 201 E. Pascagoula Street in downtown Jackson between 10am and 5pm, Monday thru Friday. The box office will open at the Ford Academic Complex (1701 N. State St.) at 6:30pm on the evening of the concert.
